EASY-CHANGE Gullet Gauge

The EASY-CHANGE Gullet Gauge works with both the EASY-CHANGE Gullet System and the EASY-CHANGE Gullet System WIDE to help you select the correct gullet size for your horse and monitor changes in their muscling over time.

The gauge provides a starting point for gullet selection. The correct gullet choice will be confirmed upon fitting the gullet, for a panel contact or bearing that best matches the pitch of your horse's back.

Please note: depending on your saddle style, particularly very close contact models, your saddle fitter may recommend using a gullet one to two sizes closer than indicated on the gauge.

What size gullets are available?

Standard saddles take six interchangeable gullet plates, coded by size.

  • Narrow, 210 mm
  • Medium narrow, 220 mm
  • Medium, 230 mm
  • Medium wide, 240 mm
  • Wide, 245 mm
  • Extra wide, 255 mm

There is a 3 mm tolerance above and below the standard measurement because of the manufacturing process. Measurements are taken from the inside of the gullet plate at its widest point. They are for reference only and are not intended to be used for fitting. To find the right gullet for your horse, use the EASY-CHANGE Gullet Gauge and the advice of a professional saddle fitter.

What size WIDE gullets are available?

WIDE saddles take four interchangeable gullet plates, coded by size.

  • 1XW, 255 mm
  • 2XW, 270 mm
  • 3XW, 280 mm
  • 4XW, 295 mm

Which gullet comes fitted in my saddle?

Most Wintec saddles come fitted with a medium (black) gullet. High Wither models come fitted with a medium narrow (green) gullet, and WIDE saddles come fitted with a 2XW gullet.

How do I know if my saddle has HART?

Turn your saddle over and look under the cantle. Saddles with Horse and Rider Technology carry a HART badge there. It is the only marking on the saddle, so if the badge is present you have all five HART technologies.
